Prey 2 Demo Pc [UPD] Download



Kotaku reported in May 2013 that development of Prey 2 had moved to the Austin, Texas division of Arkane Studios, who at the time were completing their work on Dishonored. Kotaku's report claimed that because of the rumored split between Human Head and Bethesda, Bethesda had been "shopping around" for a developer to pick up the title. Among those that had been rumored to be considered included Obsidian Entertainment, who were said to have worked on the title for a few months, and Rebellion Developments, who refused the offer.[23] From this report, additional rumors surfaced including that the work that Human Head had completed by this point was only for a demonstration version and far from a completed game, a claim denied by Human Head developers.[16] Arkane, Bethesda or ZeniMax did not comment on this information at this time, but Hines denied rumors of Arkane's involvement in early August 2013.[24] However, a week after this, several internal emails from Arkane revealed that they had been approved to work on Prey 2, which they wanted to mold as a spiritual successor to System Shock. To this end, Arkane scrapped all of the previous work by Human Head for their vision of the game.[25][26][27][28] Neither Arkane or Bethesda have commented on these reports.[25]

Oh, nice! After trying to highlight a few games that have PC demos recently (I do like a demo - it's far friendlier than a refund scheme and can actually be really interesting as a piece of curation or editing in and of itself, although obv it then requires more work and doesn't contain the possibility of someone forgetting to get a refund or straying outside the no-questions refund period) there's now one for the sci-fi adventure, Prey [official site].


If memory serves, the reasoning for having a console demo earlier in the game's life but not one for PC was given as a resource thing. Basically Steam's refund policy lets you refund a game if you've played less than two hours so the effort went into making console demos and the Steam policy would cover those on PC until a dedicated demo could be made. As per the first paragraph of this story, the Steam refund policy and the ability to play a demo aren't the same thing so I'm glad we have this now.


ANYWAY, I should probably talk about the actual game for a bit. Prey has you aboard a space station of the future which has been infested by hostile alien creatures of various, related flavours. It's survival horror, with some curious powers at your disposal and a story to pick into about what's going on. With the PC demo you get roughly the game's opening hour - also it's not a really a demo, it's a trial.


The distinction Arkane are making is that with their Prey demo you'd get a separate experience from the game proper in terms of your progression, whereas with a trial you retain your progress and get any trophies or achievements you earned in that time. Nicely complicating proceedings is that Steam is referring to the trial as a demo. I'm assuming that might be language that's hard-coded into the store interface but I'm not sure enough of that to say for definite that Steam demo progress would feed into the full game if you stuck with it. I also haven't seen an answer to the question on the discussion board AND I can't download the demo and test it myself because I own the game. [It is indeed a trial, presenting an option to unlock the full game on the main menu -non-Preying ed.]


One final point, which John can borrow for his big book of baffling Steam interface choices, is that a lot of people seem to be confused about where to find said demo/trial: it's the blue "download demo" button on the Steam page.


You don't have to worry about console spec, except for hard drive space, so set aside 42GB on your PS4 and 38GB on Xbox One, which should cover the download, the launch day patch (yes, there will be one), and all future DLC.


The game will be available for pre-load today on Xbox One and tomorrow on PS4, while PC users will need to wait until May 3 to start their early download. The game will unlock at midnight by territory on console and at midnight Eastern on PC.

There's a new demo out for Prey today, the rebooted sci-fi shooter from Dishonored 2 developer Arkane Studios and publisher Bethesda. You can download the 13+ GB demo right now on PS4 and Xbox One, but not on PC.


In the aptly titled Prey Demo: Opening Hour you can, well, play the opening hour of the game and see if it's something you might like to buy. That's great. I love this video game demo renaissance that's blossomed across the industry in recent years. Mostly demos are multiplayer betas these days, so it's especially nice to see an hour of a single-player game available to play.


What worries me is that the demo isn't available on PC. You may recall the many struggles Dishonored 2 had on Steam. Frame-rate drops, settings automatically changing, crashes and so forth. I actually lucked out and didn't encounter any of these, but plenty of other gamers did. My main issue with that game was its lackluster story and the many ways it simply fell short of the original.


Now, once again, Bethesda is choosing to not send out early review codes for Prey, relying instead on brand power and banking on hype to drive sales. It's PC gamers who, once again, are left out in the cold. Though even the hour of PS4 and Xbox One demos may not be enough to discover deeper issues with the game (though it's better than nothing).


Recently, Arkane Studios released a short, free demo for Prey ahead of its May 5 launch date. However, the demo is only available on PS4 and Xbox One, motivating some players to question why there isn't one for PC.


In addition, he explained that the developer chose to focus on consoles because players on PC can play the game for up to two hours after launch and get a refund for it, due to Steam's refund program. "Besides, PC has Steam," he stated. "Steam players can just return the game [prior to playing] 2 hours so it's like a demo already."

My Typhon-anxiety was about to hit with full force as the second demo was way more action-orientated than the first, which meant extra aliens and new things to kill said aliens with. Even with an additional silenced pistol and shotgun, I continually felt underpowered and the lack of ammo haunted my every move. You truly have to consider your decisions very carefully: do you risk fighting that Phantom and sacrificing valuable health, Medkits and ammo in exchange for goodies/side quests that may be in there? Or do you sneak past and cling onto your assets, missing out on possible loot and levelling up opportunities? The atmosphere contributes to getting your heart pumping: you don't want to look around that corner, or in that toilet cubicle. Bad things in games always happen in the toilet.


And now, you don't even just have to take my word for it. Prey Demo: Opening Hour is now available to download on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One so you can try the first part out for yourself. Good luck, Morgan, and watch out for those coffee cups.


The Demo includes the main quests First Day on the Job, Break Out, and Room with a View. The demo does not technically end with the third mission, but once you have entered the Main Lobby area, you will be unable to leave to other areas.
